Book Purchases

"The Pedens of America" was first published in 1900 in conjunction with the first Peden Family reunion at Fairview Presbyterian Church.

An update of that first version, expanded to include more than 20,000 names, was published in 1961.

The Pedens of South Carolina - John Peden and Margaret McDill and their Descendants in America was newly completed in 2013, covering the first five generations of the family with the sixth generation listed, as well. This book fully documents the emigration from Ireland of the Pedens, McDills, Mortons, and Alexanders to the British Province of South Carolina in 1768, 1771, and 1772 where they secured royal land grants on the Tyger River. Chapters in the book cover what has been discovered concerning our origins in Scotland and Ireland, our ancestor’s participation in the American Revolution, our ties with Chester County, and the settlement of Fairview in 1785 and 1786. The early history of each house is covered in separate chapters.

Please note that the newest Peden book does not replace the 1961 book; it is an altogether different presentation of the Peden history. The history portion of the new book utilizes historical records that were not available in the past, but does carry forward the descendant lines from "The Pedens of America". Every family should have a copy of "The Pedens of America" as well as the new book.
